Last night was rough: wet beds, stuffy noses, hungry baby... and then somehow I ended up "sleeping" on the couch as my son snuggled with his father. I am pretty tired this morning and it got me thinking about how different my life is now that I have kids. Here are just 3 ways I thought of on my limited brain power this morning:
- Before kids, there were only a few things I needed to grab on my way out the door- my purse, my cell phone, my to-do list and my coffee mug... Now that I have kids: strollers, diaper bags, extra clothes, hats and gloves, snacks, sippy cups, a binky, my "occupy my kids" bag and whatever toy Isaac HAS to bring with him that day.
- Before kids, if I ran out of half-n-half I would just stop at Starbucks on my way to work and order a grande toffee nut latte with a muffin.... Now that I have kids, if I run out of half-n-half I just grab one of Isaac's granola bars and drink my coffee black (but I have to admit I've seriously considered putting formula in!)
- Before kids, I would put things away in my house and they would remain there until I moved them again... After kids, I wake up to find my hair dryer in the crib, my cell phone under the couch and a plastic hammer in my bed.
In what way has your life changed AFTER KIDS?

ok i completely agree with #1!! i can't agree with it more, i need a cup of juice, fruit snacks, the toy of the day, some days she needs to be carried and some days she needs to walk to the car.
2. i can't just brush my teeth and do my makeup, i need to brush her teeth, then mine and let her play with all the makeup while i scramble to put it on fast enough so that she doesn't ruin any of it.
3. my nights i have esp, i wake up 2 minutes before she wakes up crying, i don't know how i know but i do, i am up laying there and no more than 5 minutes pass and, i can hear her crying in her bed for something.
4. before kids if i wanted to make something for dinner and didn't have 1 item, i ran to the corner store to grab now, its lets throw something else together it isn't worth it to go through #1 just for some sour cream!
ha! great question!
not that i would change having a kid in any way!! things are just different i would be lost with out my maddy now!! i didn't want it to sound like i was complaining a ton!
haha... i thought about adding a #4 that said "my life has never been better" but i hoped that was understood. i love your #4... that happens to me ALL THE TIME!!!
Before kids, when I would look in my wallet there would be money there. Now...
HOLD ON FOLKS!!!! yes..to all the things you said...especially YOU matt..but just wait...soon they will be 16 yrs old...and If you want ANYTHING from the store...they will beg you to allow them to get it for you...lol
and then they go to college...and the house stays clean, sadly. But then they marry & you get GRANDKIDS and all this seems fun!
Well...this is the BEST blog I've ever read! Ha ha..okay, so on to business:
#1: Somehow, my purse has morphed into the humongous diaper bag...which now holds Connor and Jordan's size 6 diapers, wipes, and Kaeden's size 4 diapers..along with extra clothes, socks, onesies, kleenex, chap stick, the twin's sunglasses (heaven forbid I don't have those at all times!), burp cloths, teething toys, etc. Oh..and my wallet is thrown in there with my lip gloss, and those are the only items for "me"
#2:Nina, I was LOL when I read yours because Connor always wants to "count" my eyeshadows, so as I am furiously trying to apply my makeup at a break-neck speed hoping he won't try to stick his finger in them, he happily counts all of my makeup in my bag...oh, and I reccomend giving the kids those electric toothbrushes so they can hold it on their teeth while you get ready, and they are amused for at least 5 minutes!
#3: I have 3 year old twins...you can imagine the stuff I find all over the place! The big struggle I'm having right now is that the twins can get into the fridge and climb up onto the counter to get things, so I've had to remove my knife block, any baked goods, the toaster, the coffee maker, and I'm considering the spice rack...(I'd move my microwave if I could, because they like to open and close the door and push the buttons but I just don't think a microwave in the laundry room would be a good idea!)
#4: For some reason God thinks we are AWESOME and can handle all of this extra responsibility, so I give Him all the credit for helping me get through every day and, as you mentioned, we are all extremely blessed and glad to be parents!
I can NOT wait for this amazing chaos.
I agree with #1 & #3 wholeheartedly! I don't drink coffee (gasp!) so #2 does not pertain to me.
I would add:
- Going to the bathroom is a group activity. I have been asked if I am going poo-poo or pee-pee every time, and congratulated with big "yay"s every time I go.
- Before kids I worried about what I wore and how I look. Now I am happy to be dressed and wish I could shed my baby weight if I was more motivated.
- I used to have songs stuck in my head that I loved to listen to. Now I find myself waking up to Backyardigans, Handy Manny & the Wiggles stuck in my head.
I'm sure there is more!!! But that is all I can think of right now :)
