Sunday afternoon we celebrated our friend Connor's 1st birthday (Zoey and him were born on the same day!) We played on the moon bounce, ate ice cream from a real live Fire Engine and got to see Cameron's new playground (that was Isaac's favorite!) We had so much fun, even though I am bummed I never got a picture of the birthday boy! Happy Birthday Connor!

Smog or Pollution?
Exerpt from "Pure Joy" by Alicia Britt Chole
A murky, gray, haze lurks over the city.
The locals call it “smog.” Visitors know it is pollution.
The locals call it “smog.” Visitors know it is pollution.
Some optimistically wait for the sun to come out and the winds to change. Others guess correctly that the sun has been blocked out and unless choices change, the “smog” will endure.
We smile at such obvious rewriting of reality, but we need to smile cautiously. Most of us have a keen ability to edit reality and excuse ourselves from responsibility.
We call slander, “sharing.”
Toying with temptation is dismissed as, “harmless curiosity.”
Lack of discipline is justified under the label of “temperament.”
Self is dressed up and renamed “focused.”

How easy it is to deceive ourselves and accept poison in our lives.
Sin is similar to pollution. It is man-made through the power of choice. Unless dealt with aggressively, sin gathers, deepens, and obscures Truth. Calling it “smog” will not make it going away. Only when we acknowledge sin for the pollution it really is in our lives can the clean up effort begin.
God Himself stands ready to champion that clean up effort. His assistance arrives the very moment we move from denial to repentance.

**a year in review***
Happy 1st Birthday to our sweet Zo-Zo.
This year has gone by so fast and we've enjoyed every second. I was looking at my blog posts from when she was born and I loved reading this one. God is so faithful and we are extremely blessed beyond measure for the children God has given us. Now, as Isaac has informed us, we are going to start focusing on his "airplane" birthday that will be approaching in March!!!

In His Steps...
Every night for about a month, Isaac and I have been going thru a kid's devotional by Charles Sheldon, which is "In His Steps" retold for children. After the story is over, we have some questions we have to answer that bring the message home. Here is how tonight's questions went...
Me: Have you ever had a problem that seemed too big for God?
Isaac: Yes, I had a very big boo-boo on my knee for my birf-day.
Me: Did you ask God for help?
Isaac: Yes, and he healed it and make it all better.
Me: Can you think of a time when you were scared?
Isaac: I had a scary dream and I didn't know what to do.
Me: How did Jesus make you brave?
Isaac: My God is very big, He is strong AND mighty, there is nothing my God cannot do.
Me: Have there ever been times that you didn't want to share?
Isaac: Yes, I don't like when Zoey touches my trucks.
Me: What does Jesus want us to do?
Isaac: Jesus wants us to share, but not the monster truck, just the garbage truck.

Hole-in-the-Wall
Ever since our High School prom our Junior year, Angela has been talking to me about going back to Genitti's Hole-in-the-Wall Dinner Theater. I thought it would be so much fun to surprise her there for her 30th birthday with some of her closest friends. It was so much fun to celebrate Angela, while seeing a lot of friends we haven't been able to catch up with in awhile. Happy 30th Ang!

the big 35!
My Dad and Mom celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary yesterday (well, they actually "celebrated" Zoey's dedication/birthday, but it was their anniversary). I don't think that large anniversary numbers really catch your attention until you have been married a couple of years... then you are AMAZED! Nina and I asked my mom yesterday the secret of their happy marriage and my mom quickly said "selflessness." As their daughter I can absolutely say that is true of them.
HAPPY 35TH ANNIVERSARY DAD AND MOM!!!
