combinations

I've come to realize that having 4 kids is a lot of work. Who knew?
Last night our 1 year old got very sick and Chris was up with him all night long.
I ended up taking the older 2 kids and Jacob to church this morning while Chris stayed home with Elijah. This combination of kids was so much easier than any other Sunday, and it got me thinking....

Some combinations of my kids make life easier... and some make them much harder.
Let me give you some examples....

Isaac (6yr) + Zoey (3yr) = no need for a diaper bag
Isaac (6yr) + Elijah (1yr) = successful errand that takes under 15 minutes
Zoey (3yr) + Jacob (4mo) = built in babysitter
Elijah (1yr) + Jacob (4mo) = do only errands that have a drive-thru
Isaac (6yr) + Jacob (4mo) =  successful grocery shopping trip or even to the library
Isaac (6yr) + Zoey (3yr) + Jacob (4mo) = a fun trip to the park
Zoey (3yr) + Elijah (1yr) + Jacob (4mo) = a need for a 4th cup of coffee
Isaac (6yr) + Zoey (3yr) + Elijah (1yr) + Jacob (4mo) = everyday life... with my 5th cup of coffee

Rock Climbing

Today we took Isaac rock climbing with some of his friends for his birthday.
This place was so much fun!
All the kids did really great and we all had such a fun time.
Isaac wants to know when we can go again!

Isaac's 6th Birthday

Thank you to our family for celebrating Isaac's 6th birthday with us.
He hasn't put his Legos down since last week.
I have officially decided that even just having our immediate family over STILL makes it a circus... but I wouldn't have it any other way!!!

it's a "black-sharpie-list" kind of day.

I woke up this morning in a panic.
I have mountains of things to do and don't have the time to do them.
When I do "have the time" I don't have the "quiet" I need to concentrate.
I honestly didn't know where to start.... so I started with my Bible.
OF COURSE I would read this...

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:28-31)

... not knowing where he was going.

Here is a powerful excerpt from today's My Utmost For His Highest entry.
It hit me where it hurt today.

He went out, not knowing where he was going —Hebrews 11:8
Living a life of faith means never knowing where you are being led. But it does mean loving and knowing the One who is leading. It is literally a life of faith, not of understanding and reason—a life of knowing Him who calls us to go. Faith is rooted in the knowledge of a Person, and one of the biggest traps we fall into is the belief that if we have faith, God will surely lead us to success in the world.

Won't be a Kindergartener for much longer....

Last night was Isaac's spring school conference and it was student-led. It was so much fun going to his classroom with him and seeing how he interacted with all his teachers. I loved hearing his gym teacher and his music teacher give him a hard time. He LOVES school and I can see a love for learning in him that he gets from his dad. We are so proud of you, buddy!

Thanks dad and mom for taking the rest of the kids so we could focus on Isaac and even surprise him with a dinner out at his favorite restaurant. We couldn't have done it without you!
Isaac's Past/Present/Future project. He was so excited to cut things out of daddy's magazine without him knowing.
Isaac at his locker.

Isaac had to paint a picture of his favorite thing to do. This is us at church. Uncle Matt is playing the guitar and leading worship, his dad is doing audio behind the sound board and we are all sitting and worshiping God. I loved that this was hanging over his locker.
This kid LOVES math!!!
Showing us how centers work.

Isaac and his teacher Mrs. Perkins-Rose. This lady is amazing and I'm realizing that I am becoming attached. You can definitely tell she has the gift of a teacher. Can she just teach him all the way through high school? She even let him borrow the book they read in class while he was sick at home because he was so bummed he missed it.

{brain dump} session V

Just random thoughts from my random brain...
This week has flown by... and dragged on... both at the same time.
I am in love with the Tommee Tippee Explora brand!
I wish my husband would record himself reading the entire Bible so I could listen to it in the car.
I definitely have dark circles under my eyes.... it might be a permanent condition.
I need to find my camera.
I can't relate to people who say they have no regrets.
I think everyone should read the book "Humility" by Andrew Murray.
God is Just... God is Love... He is both all the time.
I love when Isaac has 1/2 a day of school.
I can't wait to hang out with the girls Saturday night! (don't get to do that often)

3 months and counting....

I get to stare at this face all day long.
3 months and counting....
  • You are almost rolling over... definitely getting to your side.
  • You laugh hysterically when tickled.
  • You took a full bottle of formula last night when mama was preoccupied and did great!
  • You would be satisfied to just be held and people watch.
  • You are grabbing things and pulling them down towards you.
  • You are such a trouper when Isaac "mega-rocks" you, when Elijah takes your blanket from you or when Zoey sings to you nose to nose.
  • You are such a good baby and you make my life so full!

and in all things.... session 36

Today on March 2nd, 2012 I am thankful for...
  1. Galatians 3:14.
  2. Good jewelry cleaner.
  3. Astoria.
  4. Pacifiers.
  5. The invitation to approach God.
  6. Double stroller.
  7. My introduction to sushi by my brother.
  8. The patience in others.

Dear Kids...

"And whence comes it that men who have joyfully given up themselves for Christ, find it so hard to give up themselves for their brethren?"
{Andrew Murray, from his book Humility}

Dear Kids....

I know sometimes I get frustrated at the endless toys on the ground or the fact that the kitchen sink is always filled with dirty dishes. I can get crabby when we can't find that same glove every morning or when a glass of milk is spilled all over the newly cleaned floors. I hate to admit it, but at times I am overwhelmed with the amount of laundry I have to do, the number of meals I have to prepare and the immeasurable "mommy" calls I have to answer. Truth is, this mommy thing is hard, and I am constantly counting on God's grace to get me through each day.

However, after all is said and done, I need you to know that there aren't a group of people on this planet that I would rather serve. I am humbled and honored that the Lord would call me to give my time, my resources and my life for each of you. You are worth far more than anything I have to give, and when I think about how much each of you mean to me... to God... I am put-back by the fact that things like dirty clothes get me stressed. I love you all... enough to serve you each and every day. I might not have much talent or wealth to bestow upon you, but I can serve you... with a grateful heart. Please know that my sacrifices, as small as they may be, are my way of saying you are the most important people to me.

Love, Mom
