a mega-dose of reality.... as usual
Last night during our family dinner, Isaac had something he wanted to tell his dad.
(Hoping I get the quotes as close as possible to real events...)
"Did you know that eels have electricity? And did you know that if an eel is up in space and touches an astronaut space suit they will get electrocuted and will fall over?"
As as fast as he could spill out his incredible space theory, I could see Chris' eyes getting bigger and bigger. Isaac had no idea he was about to get a dose of reality. I knew Chris couldn't contain himself... especially if the story had to do with electricity.
"Isaac, that story is impossible. First of all, an eel could never live in space...they can only live in water and they wouldn't be able to breathe in space unless they had a space suit too. Secondly, an astronaut suit is not conductive, so if an astronaut had it on, the eel couldn't electrocute him at all."
I gave Chris the "way-to-crush-his-creativity" look and he gave me back the "he-needs-to-know-the-truth" stare. I quickly glanced back at Isaac to make sure that his imagination was not crushed forever.
"Really? I didn't know that dad. Does the astronaut need to wear gloves too?"
Like father, like son.

backfire
I think I am one of those parents.
You know, the ones who try to take every single opportunity to teach their kids something. I think it was ingrained in me from my mother.... I blame her.
Today we were driving and the kids saw a bunch of people standing on the side of the road.
Isaac: What are all those people doing, mom?
Me: They are waiting for the bus.
Isaac: Why don't they just drive their car?
Me: Well, not everyone has a car (and wait for it) We should take time right now to thank God for blessing us with a car.
Isaac: Ok... Thanks God for blessing us... but why didn't you bless those people?

Princess Jezebel
Bible Story/ Fairy Tale Confusion
Zoey: (looking at her sippy cup) Who is the princess in the yellow dress?
Zoey: (looking at her sippy cup) Who is the princess in the yellow dress?
Isaac: That is Princess Jezebel. She was married to King Ahab. She was not a good princess and she tried to kill the prophet Elijah, but God didn't let her.
Zoey: I think it's Belle from Beauty and the Beast.
Isaac: Oh

Zoey: "The baby in your belly is a boy!"
Me: "We don't know that"
Zoey: "It's a girl?"
Me: "We don't know that either"
Zoey: "It's baby Jesus!!!!"
Zoey: "It's baby Jesus!!!!"

my brave boy
Today Isaac had to get an unplanned pulpotomy at the dentist. It was a rough day emotionally for mom, but Isaac did AMAZING. He was chilled and relaxed and didn't have a worry in the world.... that is until we talked to the receptionist afterward:
Receptionist: It will be very easy for him to bite his lip and cheek because he is so numb, so try to keep him for biting down.
(I looked down and Isaac had one tear running down his cheek)
Me: What's wrong buddy? Are you in pain?
Isaac: No, I'm just sad.
Me: What's wrong buddy? Are you in pain?
Isaac: No, I'm just sad.
Me: Why?
Isaac: The lady told me not to bite and that means I can never eat again.

In His Steps...
Me: Have you ever had a problem that seemed too big for God?
Isaac: Yes, I had a very big boo-boo on my knee for my birf-day.
Me: Did you ask God for help?
Isaac: Yes, and he healed it and make it all better.
Me: Can you think of a time when you were scared?
Isaac: I had a scary dream and I didn't know what to do.
Me: How did Jesus make you brave?
Isaac: My God is very big, He is strong AND mighty, there is nothing my God cannot do.
Me: Have there ever been times that you didn't want to share?
Isaac: Yes, I don't like when Zoey touches my trucks.
Me: What does Jesus want us to do?
Isaac: Jesus wants us to share, but not the monster truck, just the garbage truck.

a toddler who prays!
Isaac: What's wrong with Zoey?Me: She's not feeling very good, buddy
Isaac: She has a temperature?
Me: Yes
Isaac: Jesus needs to make her better so we can play!
After going to the kitchen to get Zoey some Tylenol, I walked into Isaac's room and he had his hands on Zoey's head and I overheard him saying...Isaac: Jesus, make Zoey feel better. Amen.

quoting my 3-yr-old... reinstated
Isaac got in trouble tonight for doing something wrong, so Chris sent him inside and told him he wasn't allowed to play outside any more. After time-out was over I told him he needed to spend some time cleaning his room. He went into his room and saw that it was a big mess, looked at me and said "can I shut the door?" I told him he could and then he came out into the hallway and shut his bedroom door behind him. I then asked, "Isaac, why aren't you inside cleaning your room?" to which he responded, "I shut the door like mama when her room is a mess!"

Eat food, Not feet
Me: Good Morning (grabbing his foot) I like your foot!
Isaac: Please don't eat it mom
Me: Why not
Isaac: You need to eat food, not feet
(side note: I think this quote might catch on)
Me: But I like your feet
Isaac: No mom, go eat breakfast
Me: Well, can I go and eat Zoey's feet?
Isaac: (thinking first) No
Me: Why not
Isaac: Because we are kids and we need our feet!

Quoting my Toddler, Part 6
Isaac saw me rubbing my head this morning and asked me what was wrong. "I'm just tired, Buddy". He grabbed my hand and walked me to my bedroom. He told me to lay down, pulled the covers over and me and then left and closed my bedroom door. I then heard him saying "We need to be quiet, Zoey, mama is sleeping." If it were only that easy!!!

Quoting my Toddler, Part 5
I had about an hour to spend with Isaac while Zoey took a nap, so I was trying to find something for us to do together. I took him to his closet and started naming things off: car puzzle, air hockey, candyland, building blocks, etc. He grabbed my hand and softly said "no mama, I don't want to do those." Then I asked him what he wanted to do. He grabbed my face in his hands and said "Let's just talk, mama." I didn't think he really meant it, but we went to the couch and it was true, he just wanted to talk! What???

Quoting my Toddler, Part 3
This morning after Chris woke up, I blessed him with time with his kids and went back to bed... I had been up with Zoey a couple of times last night. Well, Chris and Isaac snuck in on me and jumped on the bed to tickle me. I tried to be excited and act surprised, but I was SO TIRED. When Isaac saw that I wasn't getting into it, he stopped and asked if I was ok.... Chris on the other hand wasn't deterred. Isaac saw that Chris was still bothering me and that bothered him, so he kept trying to get his dad's attention to leave me alone. Finally he yelled, "DADDY BUNK!" Chris and I laughed so hard. He must hear us use his last name when he is in trouble and tried to do the same to his dad!

Quoting my Toddler, Part 2
During a quick run to Costco, we were sitting in the food/concession area behind a elderly man in an electric scooter. The man was trying to leave, but couldn't control his scooter and smashed really hard into our cart and our table. I had the baby in my hands, but I quickly did what I could to help the man. It was like a movie... he would go forward and hit something, then go in reverse and hit something. Once Chris helped him get everything under control, Isaac looked at me very seriously and loudly said, "Mama, that man is CRAZY!!" All the people sitting close to us starting cracking up and I couldn't correct him properly without bursting out into laughter, so I just let it go.

Quoting my Toddler
I thought I would join in the "quote-your-toddler" posts.
This one had me laughing all day:
This morning Isaac walked out of his room holding
his head in his hands, when I asked him what was wrong,
he said, "Mama, I need coffee."
